My laundry room has been a constant source of disenchantment for me. Not only is it the laundry room, but also the back entrance. I want any entrance to our home to be welcoming and beautiful, but our laundry room, like many, was lacking in the area of beauty. The outdated linoleum and sheer functionality of the space left something to be desired. We need a functional space to do our laundry, feed our pets, and have a place for the litter box. Can’t beauty and function co-exist?
Right now, we don’t have the budget to replace the linoleum or build some kind of door feature to hide the washer and dryer. The other factor for us is that the laundry room and back entry are in the line of sight as soon as you walk in the front door. So you see it, its not tucked away. It also happens to be directly off the dining room/kitchen.
On to my solution. I added a rug! I know that seems simple, and it is. I’ve always just put up with my not-so-great linoleum and, in a spur of inspiration, thought of a rug tucked away in one of my closets. The 5×7 rug covers almost the entire linoleum! The improvement is so great!!! The rug brings a sense of warmth and cohesiveness. Now it feels more like the rest of our home. Eventually, we will change out the light fixture and do something different with the floor, but for now this is a simple solution!
